Author Talk: Meet John Mancini
Ancestry and Real Life
John will discuss and read from his book Immigrant Secrets: The Search for My Grandparents. This book is the story of how John Mancini unraveled a family history mystery. His father had no “backstory.” He never mentioned his family. Never. The family only knew – or thought they knew – that his Italian immigrant parents died in the 1930s. Except they didn't.
Once he began the search for his grandparents, he mostly ran into dead-ends. Until the 1940 Census. His grandparents magically appear, but as inmates at the Rockland Insane Asylum. What happened? Why all the secrecy? And how did he use genealogy to unravel the mystery?
