In Book Rebels, we'll read books that have been banned, challenged, censored, or protested around the world, as well as books that focus on freedom of expression. We'll discuss why the books were challenged and other related issues.

For August, we are reading Flamer by Mike Curato, a 2020 graphic novel about a teen on a path of self-discovery and acceptance during summer camp. It was the #4 most challenged book in America in 2022, according to the American Library Association.

Open to teens ages 12-18. No registration necessary. This program meets at the Club Phoenix Teen Center in the Vienna Community Center.
