Senior Safety—Be Alert to Scams!
Seniors are more likely to be targeted for scams and identity theft and not realize until it is too late that they have been scammed. This class will highlight a variety of scams, how to protect yourself from being scammed, and what to do in the unfortunate event that you become a victim of a scam.
Cosponsored by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University (OLLI Mason).
ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Sheriff Stacey Ann Kincaid is the first woman to lead the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in its 280-year history. She won a special election in 2013 to fill the balance of a term and was re-elected in 2015 and 2019 to full four-year terms. Sheriff Kincaid serves over 1.1 million residents in Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the towns of Herndon and Vienna. As the sheriff, one of her top priorities continues to be changing the way our criminal justice and behavioral health systems interact to create better outcomes for individuals and our community. A graduate of Langley High School in McLean, Virginia, Sheriff Kincaid received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Criminal Justice from Frostburg State University in 1987. Her college internship at the Sheriff’s Office sparked her interest in a career as a deputy sheriff.
Casey Lingan has served as General Counsel for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office for the past three years. He previously served as Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney. As a prosecutor, he played an integral role in the creation of the Fairfax County Mental Health Docket. Mr. Lingan graduated from the University of Virginia and from Georgetown Law.
