Local Government in America: The Best Practice of Democracy

Local Government in America: The Best Practice of Democracy

In this talk, David Meyer will cover the various forms of local government in the United States, with particular emphasis on Virginia, and reflect on why local government is critically important. He will discuss the irony that the fewest number of voters participate in local elections and that local government has the greatest impact on the daily lives of all citizens.

About David

David Meyer recently retired after serving six years as the mayor of the City of Fairfax. Before being elected mayor, he served 8½ years on the City Council. David has a BA in Political Science from Randolph-Macon College and a MPA from American University. He spent 37 years in the Federal government, including 16 years as a career member of the Senior Executive Service.
