Fig Talk and Community Plant Swap
Do you love fig trees? The fig is a peculiar and underestimated fruit with a very rich history. For over a million years, over 750 species of fig trees shaped our world, influenced our evolution, and nourished our bodies and imagination. The fig is mentioned in every culture and religion!
Dr. Jafar Vossoughi, retired bioengineering professor and a Master Gardener, will present a comprehensive talk on the small, unusual fruit, the fig. The presentation will cover history, botany, biology, and information specific to the cultivars suitable for our region. A short review of the medicinal, nutritional, and culinary aspects of this fruit will also be discussed.
The usual community plant swap will follow the Dr. Vossoughi’s presentation. Bring your cuttings, seeds, seedlings, transplants, plants, and garden supplies for a community plant swap. Please ensure that your plants and cuttings are labeled and are pest-free. The presentation will take place in Meeting Rooms A and B, and the swap will take place outside, on the patio of the City of Fairfax Regional Library, weather permitting.
Free outside and underground parking is available, take the elevator to the first floor and follow the signs.
