The Enchanted Suitcase: A Window Onto My German Father’s World War II Life
Meet Author Helga Warren
Helga Warren will speak on her newly published book, The Enchanted Suitcase: A Window Onto My German Father's World War II Life, inspired by stumbling upon her German father’s memoirs of World War II—a striking account of his journey to Paris, Normandy, a POW camp in Alabama, and to a new life as an American. Her discovery unveiled one of the few firsthand accounts of the German POW experience in America, and also a new perspective on the father she thought she knew.
A book sale and signing will follow the presentation.
About Helga Warren
Helga Warren is a Washington DC tour guide specializing in German and French tours of the city, and a former FCPS German Immersion teacher at Orange Hunt Elementary and Irving Middle. She lives locally in the Orange Hunt neighborhood of West Springfield with her husband Harry, where they happily raised two children. The daughter of German parents, Helga grew up in a German-speaking household and had the good fortune of spending her teenage years in Paris, which led to a lifelong involvement with languages. Her three grandchildren are the light of her life. She would never have written a book if it weren’t for that old suitcase in the basement.
