Burke Historical Society Presents: A visit from local author P. O’Connell Pearson

Burke Historical Society Lecture Series.

P. O’Connell Pearson (Patty) is a former Fairfax County history teacher who writes historical nonfiction for ages ten and up.  Her latest title, We Are Your Children Too: Black Students, White Supremacists, and the Battle for America’s Schools in Prince Edward County, Virginia is the story of a group of young Black Americans, led by sixteen-year-old Barbara Johns, who stood up for their right to an education. Their strike and ensuing lawsuit triggered a firestorm of White supremacist reaction, a landmark Supreme Court ruling, the inception of massive resistance, and five years of school closings.

Join us to hear about Patty's research and writing process.

This program is appropriate for ages 13 & Up
