Create Your Own Sand Painting!

Create Your Own Sand Painting!

Navajos are known for their beautiful and bright sand paintings. Sand paintings are not just a work of art; they were originally used to heal illnesses. Traditionally, the medicine man painted a sand painting in front of the home of somebody who was ill. The harmony in the sand painting was thought to promote healing. Once the painting and chanting were complete, it was thought to absorb the illness. When the sand painting was finished, it was destroyed.
