A Place Called Ilda

A Place Called Ilda

Local journalist and Fairfax County History Commission member Tom Shoop will speak about his new book, A Place Called Ilda: Race and Resilience at a Northern Virginia Crossroads. Ilda was a mixed-race community in the area of Little River Turnpike and Guinea Road. Shoop's book recounts the Black experience in Fairfax County over generations and sheds new light on the racial, economic, political, and bureaucratic factors that drove the development of Northern Virginia and the nation as a whole.

Event is co-sponsored by the Historical Society of Fairfax County.
