Genealogy 101: Fundamentals of Tracing Your Roots Through Genealogy

Genealogy 101: Fundamentals of Tracing Your Roots Through Genealogy

Learn the basics of genealogy and the skills needed to find and use records, documentation, and information on your ancestors. Topics will include primary vs. secondary sources, original documents vs. abstracts and transcripts, using databases, and an overview of common types of records such as deeds, wills, court orders, births, deaths, marriages, and the census. This lecture works well as an introduction for beginners or as a refresher course.

Presentation will be given by Mount Vernon Genealogical Society member Sharon Hodges. A professional genealogist, teacher, author, and lecturer, Sharon has been involved in genealogical research for over 35 years.
