Hanji Paper Craft

Hanji Paper Craft

LEARN ABOUT THE ART OF HANJI

Discover the art of Hanji and create a traditional Korean illustration craft on mulberry paper in this workshop. Hanji is traditional handmade Korean mulberry paper that was made starting as early as 200 AD. While originally valued for its durability and strength, it has become used more frequently in artwork in contemporary times. It is produced by gently tearing up colorful hanji and pasting them together on canvas. The hanji is torn onto layers to express light and shadow, to create depths of color and form shapes.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Sophia is a member of the Hanji Korea Association. She has had her work previously exhibited at KyungIn Art Gallery in Seoul, South Korea and across several Fairfax County Public library branches.
