“Eid Empanadas” by author Wendy Diaz introduces Omar Hernández, a young Muslim student at An-Noor Islamic Academy. Even after a year and half in Ms. Khan’s 5th-grade class Omar still feels like the new kid at school. Life takes an unexpected turn when the teacher gives the class an assignment about how their families celebrate the month of Ramadan. About Wendy Diaz
Wendy Diaz was born in Puerto Rico, spending her childhood there before moving to the United States. She is an award-winning poet, author and translator and co-founder of Hablamos Islam, a social project focused on creating educational resources about Islam in Spanish, including children’s programming and literature. Dedicating her efforts to creating unique stories for children and through Hablamos Islam, she has published over 15 books.
