Brian Slawski will talk about the massive solar storm of 1859, its worldwide effects, and its implications for the present day.
About the presenter
Brian Slawski serves as Vice President and Programs Chair of the Burke Historical Society. In his day job, he works as a utility patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Before joining the Patent Office, he worked in Charlottesville as an engineer for a start-up developing a new vapor deposition process. He holds a bachelor's degree and is working on a master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia.
