Rick Olmsted's Big Footprint: The Creation of Washington DC as We Know It Today
Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. (1870-1957) – known as Rick -- was born into the shadow of his famous father (1833-1903), the genius founder of landscape architecture. He stepped seamlessly into his father's footprints, but turned out to be even more prolific. His work, building on inherited principles, transformed Washington DC and made it a model city recognized by the World. His innovative contributions to city planning, park development and natural preservation are enormous but not recognized as his. This presentation will look at the DC area as Rick's incredible accomplishment, and seeks to give credit where it is due to this unsung hero.
