Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a yarn doll craft!

Worry dolls (also named trouble dolls or Muñecas quitapenas) are small, mostly hand-made dolls that originate from the highland indigenous people of Guatemala. They are called "worry dolls" because children often whisper their fears and worries to them before going to bed and placing the doll under their pillow - when the child awakes, the doll has taken their worries away and they can begin a new day refreshed.

Honor Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th - October 15th) by creating your own worry doll! Yarn, clothespins, and other craft supplies will be freely available at the craft table next to the information desk. Wrap your clothespin or popsicle stick with yarn and pipe-cleaners to create its clothes - dress your doll in the classic Mayan fashion, or however you like. Your doll is then yours to take home.
