Batik Workshop

Batik Workshop

WAX-RESIST DYEING TECHNIQUE

This workshop offers hands-on experience with the basic Batik-making process. Batik is a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Java, where artisans use a tool called "Canting" or a copper stamp "Cap" to apply wax that resists dyes. This allows for selective coloring by soaking the cloth and removing wax to achieve multiple colors. All materials provided.

Indonesian Batik was designated as Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

This program is supported by the Friends of George Mason Regional Library and the Friends of Kings Park Library.
