Sheep to Shawl: Mending

Sheep to Shawl: Mending

Ever wonder where your clothes come from? Find out through Pohick's Sheep to Shawl series, where we will trace the process from start to finish - and invite you to learn how to acquire these ancient skills for yourself.

Do you have a tear in your favorite pair of jeans or a hole in a beloved sweater? Don't throw them away - learn to repair them! We'll focus on several techniques to help revive your clothing, including patching, darning, needle felting, and the clever use of embroidery stitches as distinctive design elements. The visible mending movement has reawakened interest in the many ways we can repair, renew, and reuse our clothing, allowing us to personalize our wardrobe and help the planet breathe a little easier. Bring an item in need of mending; we'll figure out the best ways to fix it, identify the tools you'll need, and get you started on your repair!

Next up in this series:

  • Wrapping Up Loose Ends - Program will be in August; more details coming soon!
