Birding for Beginners
Join Fairfax Master Naturalist Robin Duska to learn all about how to get started as a birder. This interactive event will cover the different approaches people can take to birding, what bird species you can expect to see and hear near Herndon, how to know what you are observing, and what tools and resources are available to help birders.
Ages 10 and up welcome.
About the presenter:
After a career working for the U.S. Government and United Nations in 10 countries, Robin Duska now focuses on environmental volunteering and birding. She assists scientists managing the bird specimen collection at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. A Fairfax Master Naturalist, she was named Virginia Master Naturalist Volunteer of the Year in 2020 and Reston’s “Most Dedicated Volunteer” in 2025. She has helped produce the Reston Association State of the Environment Report since 2017. Robin especially enjoys leading bird walks for Reston, the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance, and at Riverbend Park and Great Falls National Park. She also enjoys traveling in the States and overseas to see and listen to birds.
