Great Decisions: America and the World: Trump 2.0 Foreign Policy
In its first year, the Trump administration sharply changed U.S. foreign policy under the “America First” approach. Trump raised tariffs, questioned alliances like NATO, and withdrew from the WHO and the Paris Climate Agreement. He also cut most U.S. foreign aid. By suggesting control over places like Greenland and the Panama Canal, he signaled a move away from long-standing U.S. support for international rules and the sovereignty of smaller nations. How is America's role in the world changing?
Join us for a discussion of the article “Debating America's Global Role: America First Versus Liberal Internationalism" by G. John Ikenberry. It is attached to this announcement and hard copies will be available at Reston Library. Leading our talk will be Michael C. Polt, former U.S. ambassador to Estonia and to Serbia and Montenegro, current Ambassador-in-Residence at Arizona State University, as well co-founder of ASU's Leadership, Diplomacy, and National Security Lab.
A short film on the topic will be shown at 1:00, followed by discussion at 1:30.
