Kinusaiga (絹彩画)
Kinusaiga is a contemporary Japanese art form that emerged in Japan in the 1980s and is often attributed to artist Maeno Takashi. Inspired by traditional Japanese textile arts—particularly Oshie—Maeno adapted the concept by using foam boards as a base and pressing fabric scraps into pre-cut grooves. This method creates intricate fabric collages with textured, layered designs without the need for sewing. By combining elements of traditional textile techniques with modern materials, Kinusaiga offers a tactile and visually rich alternative to conventional quilting or embroidery and has become popular with both amateur and professional artists.
