Local Author Talk: The Tougaloo Nine with M.J. O'brien

Local Author Talk: The Tougaloo Nine with M.J. O'brien

In February, FCPL is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary by focusing on African American History and Civic Impact.

Local author M.J. O’brien will discuss his latest book "The Tougaloo Nine: The Jackson Library Sit-In at the Crossroads of Civil War and Civil Rights".

The Tougaloo Nine explores the dramatic three-day period in March 1961, when nine students from historically Black Tougaloo College staged sit-ins at the all-White Main Library in Jackson, Mississippi. This book presents the stunning picture of those who risked their lives and future livelihoods to fight for full social and political equality.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.
