Joseon Dynasty Bookbinding - Seonjang 선장
Join us at Thomas Jefferson Library to learn about a traditional bookbinding method from Korea.
Seonjang (선장) is a traditional method of binding books made of mulberry bark with thread typically dyed red from cotton, bamboo, or silk. This style is also seen in ancient texts from China and Japan as well and was used throughout the Korean dynasty called: Joseon (조선) that spanned from 1392 - 1897.
