Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is a holiday that commemorates the day when news of emancipation reached Galveston, Texas, the western-most area of the Union. Enslaved people were informed of their emancipation on June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. The holiday, Juneteenth, is combination of the words "June" and "nineteenth."

Visit the library to celebrate freedom and honor Black Americans with Juneteenth crafts, food, and showings of 2 films.

Teens and adults.
