A Conversation with Kate Hanley – Her Life in Service
Celebrating Women's History Month
Kate Hanley’s leadership has made a lasting impact on Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. In this talk, she will reflect on her life in public service and the lessons she has learned along the way. Drawing from her experience in a wide range of leadership roles, she will discuss the challenges she faced and how she navigated them. She will also share her perspectives on women in politics and the vital role women’s voices play in strengthening good government and society as a whole.
This program is cosponsored by the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy.
About the Presenter
Mrs. Hanley has had a long career of public service. She is the chair of the Fairfax County Electoral Board which is responsible for overseeing all aspects of elections in Fairfax County. She is on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and has served as Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Providence Supervisor, and member of the Fairfax School Board. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Inova Health System, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, Home Aid Northern Virginia, and Cornerstones. In 2011 she chaired the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ Advisory Committee on Reapportionment and later co-chaired the Bi-Partisan Election Process Improvement Committee. She has provided decades of service to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ms. Hanley earned bachelor’s degrees in French civilization and secondary education from the University of Missouri and an M.A.T from Harvard University. She is a resident of Reston, Virginia.
