Queerly Written: LGBTQ+ Author Panel

In celebration of pride month, join us for an #OwnVoices panel discussion with award-nominated and award-winning queer authors.  Authors include Dominique Dickey, Susie Dumond, Steven Gellman, Salinee Goldenberg, Venessa Vida Kelley and Andrew Joseph White. 

Bards Alley Booksellers will be on site to sell copies of books, and the event will conclude with author book signings. 

Casa BruMar Foundation, a non-for-profit providing support to Virginia LGBTQ+ youth and adults, will be in attendance to provide community information.

Author Biographies

  • Dominique Dickey (they/them: author of Redundancies and Potentials with a short story "Forever Won't End Like This" in the Amplitudes anthology - science fiction) 
    • Dominique Dickey is a speculative fiction writer and game designer. As the creative director of Sly Robot Games, they’ve created Plant Girl Game and Tomorrow on Revelation III. They contributed to the Nebula Award-winning Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and the ENNIE Award-winning Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel. Their short fiction has appeared in venues including Fantasy MagazineLightspeed Magazine, and Nightmare Magazine. Their novella Redundancies & Potentials is now available from Neon Hemlock Press. They live in the DC area, where they’re always on the hunt for their next idea. You can find them most places as @DomSDickey
  • Susie Dumond (she/her: author of Bed and BreakupLooking for a Sign, and Queerly Beloved - wlw romance)
    • Susie Dumond is a queer writer originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. She is the author of Queerly BelovedLooking for a Sign, and Bed and Breakup, and she also talks about books as a senior contributor at Book Riot and a bookseller at her local indie bookstore. Susie lives in Washington, D.C., with her spouse, Mickey, and her cat, Maple. When she's not writing or reading, you can find her baking cupcakes or belting karaoke at the nearest gay bar.
  • Steven Gellman (he/him: author of Somewhere in Nowhere - young adult fiction)
    • Steven Gellman is an award-winning songwriter turned author. Inspired by his early love for Judy Blume’s groundbreaking stories, Steven has found his passion for writing coming-of-age fiction that centers LGBTQ+voices and the real-life challenges of navigating adolescence in an ever-changing world. Steven lives in Maryland’s Piedmont region with his husband and a houseful of rescued companion animals. Somewhere in Nowhere is his debut novel.
  • Salinee Goldenberg (she/her: author of The Last Phi Hunter and Way of the Walker - fantasy)
    • Salinee Goldenberg is a speculative fiction writer and multimedia artist who lives in Washington DC, and is drawn to outsider perspectives. A biracial, bisexual, diaspora writer, Sal often explores themes of identity, obsession and alienation in her work. A gaming industry veteran, Sal has created narrative trailers for titles such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, Dishonored, and Minecraft. When not writing, she likes to paint, listen to records, and play in punk bands.
  • Venessa Vida Kelley (they/she) is a Nuyorican illustrator, sequential artist, and USA Today bestselling author of When the Tides Held the Moon, a Goodreads Choice Awards Finalist and Readers Digest Top 10 Books of the Year. Their work focuses on magical realism, fantasy, and romance in a culturally diverse world, and has been featured in The New York TimesDiscovery Girls MagazineBuzzfeed, and in board games and activism campaigns for Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, creator of the La Borinqueña comic series. They hold a BA and MA in English Literature with concentrations in film from the University of Delaware and George Washington University.​​ They live in Washington, DC with their spouse and two sons, and can be found online at VenessaKelley.com.
  • Andrew Joseph White (he/him: author of Hell Followed With UsThe Spirit Bares its TeethCompound Fracture, and You Weren't Meant to Be Human - ya & adult horror/fantasy)
    • Andrew Joseph White is the trans, autistic, and bestselling author of Hell Followed With UsThe Spirit Bares Its TeethCompound Fracture, and You Weren't Meant to Be Human. Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, he received his MFA in creative writing from George Mason University and lives in Virginia with his wife and their antisocial cat.
