Upstart Crow Podcast Author Interview with Jane Kamensky
Jane Kamensky is a leading historian of early America and the United States, and a prominent on-camera expert in the Ken Burns/PBS documentary The American Revolution. Before leading the Thomas Jefferson Foundation (Monticello), she was a professor of American history at Harvard. She is the author or editor of numerous books, including the prize-winning A Revolution in Color: The World of John Singleton Copley (2016). She serves on the executive committee of Educating for American Democracy. Her mission at Monticello is “to hold courageous conversations that look to the past to understand a vexed present and anticipate a more perfect future.” The discussion will focus on a published book by Monticello called Declare, which is edited by Jane and features essays from writers such as Walter Isaacson, Jill Lepore, and Geraldine Brooks. With host Ken Budd, she will explore the founding generation’s ideas about liberty, equality, and the enduring meaning of the Declaration of Independence.
