Preservation Day - Collecting and Preserving Your Family History

Preservationists from the Washington, DC, area will present best practices for collecting and preserving stories and objects from your family history.

At 10:30AM a speaker from the Washington Conservation Guild will present a lecture on collecting oral histories. This talk will set the stage for collecting your family history, select stories to record, and create and save recordings.

11:30AM -2:30 PM Following the lecture, participants may visit a clinic to have personal items evaluated by a conservator, view a demonstration of recording a short family story, and learn about proper silver polishing and the rehousing of textiles and photos. Experts at the Children’s Book Hospital will repair one small personal book per person and offer a book making activity All Ages. (R)
