The History of Northern Virginia's Segregated Libraries - Zoom event
Virginia Room staff, Suzanne LaPierre and Chris Barbuschak, researched the history of Northern Virginia’s segregated public libraries. In addition to investigating Fairfax County Public Library's (FCPL’s) own association with segregation, they examined the situation in Northern Virginia as a whole, including the library systems in the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church, and the counties of Arlington, Loudoun, and Prince William.
In this presentation, learn how FCPL and other Northern Virginia libraries failed to serve Black residents– a story that has never been fully examined before. Join the African American Genealogy Special Interest Group of the Fairfax Genealogical Society for this Zoom presentation.
