American Flag History by Sons of the American Revolution-Fairfax Resolves Chapter (ages 9 and up)
Chapter members display each of the flags being discussed and engage the audience in a discussion of the transition from the original British flag to the various symbolic flags flown during the Revolution War, showing examples of each. These include the Grand Union Flag, the Virginia Liberty Flag, the Culpepper Minutemen Flag, the Liberty Tree Flag, the Betsy Ross Flag, the Hopkinson's Flag and the Bennington Flag.
Also discussed are the various “Flag Acts” and changes resulting from the legislation to the national flag including the 15-star “Star Spangled Banner” flag and the 20-star flag which followed. The young attendees are often quick to point out that the various flag acts had failed to standardize the flag. The presentation ends with a discussion of the current U.S. flag.
