Burke Historical Society Presents: Gee Gee and Speedee – The Historical Saga of McDonald’s in Fairfax County
Burke Historical Society Lecture Series.
In 1957, the Gee Gee Food Corporation opened the first McDonald's in Virginia on Route 1 in Alexandria. Learn how they built the largest single franchise operation of the McDonalds chain in the nation until Ray Kroc bought them out in 1967.
Presented by Chris Barbuschak, an archivist/librarian in Fairfax County Public Library’s Virginia Room. He gets paid to do what he loves: making Northern Virginia historical records and photographs publicly accessible and assisting researchers with their historical and genealogical quests. Outside of the library, he is always in search of the next best vintage diner to experience.
This program is appropriate for ages 13 & Up
