Book Rebels: A Teen Book Club
In Book Rebels, we read books that have been banned, challenged, censored, or protested around the world, as well as books that focus on freedom of expression. We discuss why the books were challenged and other related issues.
For January, we're reading The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. This modern classic fantasy has been challenged throughout the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. over the years, most often for being "anti-religious" / "anti-Christian." It was the 8th most frequently challenged book in the U.S. from 2000 to 2009, as tracked by the American Library Association.
Open to teens ages 12-18. No registration necessary.
