Miscommunication or Missed Communication? - The Challenges of Hearing Loss Part 1: Hearing Aids - Beware and Be Wise
Presented by the Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons (NVRC).
NVRC welcomes participants who are hearing as well as those with hearing loss since everyone can benefit from the information.
Participants can choose to attend one, two, or all three 45-minute sessions.
NVRC is the area's leading non-profit for people with hearing loss, serving the community since 1988. No sales are ever involved.
(This 3-part program won a Distinguished Partner Award from Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services.) Part 2 will be presented on March 27 and part 3 will be held on April 3.
Part 1 - Hearing Aids - Beware and Be Wise
Join Bonnie O'Leary, NVRC's Outreach Manager, for a presentation about types and degrees of hearing loss, the hearing evaluation, how to interpret an audiogram, styles and types of hearing aids, single-sided deafness, OTC vs. prescription hearing aids, and apps that can be useful. Bonnie is a late-deafened adult who has been wearing hearing aids for over 25 years and brings consumer-based, objective information to her presentation.

Presenters:
Bonnie O'Leary, NVRC Outreach Manager and Gallaudet University-Certified Peer Mentor. Bonnie has been with NVRC for 24 years, focusing on outreach and education to adults aging into hearing loss and those who serve them.
Debbie Jones, NVRC Resource & Technology Manager, has been with NVRC for 29 years. Debbie provides technology programs and demonstrations to groups throughout Northern Virginia, and manages the Technology Assistance Program for the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Region 5.
